Sister Valerie

W.B. Yeats "Education is not the filling of a pot but the lighting of a fire."

I will forever be indebted to Sister Valerie for all the encouragement and love of music that she instilled in me during my time at the Loreto boarding school in Milford.

'PERFECT PITCH'

One of my earliest vivid childhood memories is a very personal musical one. I was invited to play the piano at a Sunday afternoon concert at the Convent of Mercy in Strabane, Co Tyrone, where I learned the violin with a very precious teacher Sister Agatha, who has been such an inspiration to me throughout my life. When I was brought to the piano, I was unable to play as it was a tone and a half out of tune, and flat. Middle C sounded like B flat.  I was in tears, and couldn’t perform. It was at that moment that Sister Agatha discovered I had perfect pitch, she was overjoyed and shared this news with my father, my mother was unwell at the time. I feel very fortunate to have perfect pitch, it comes in very useful at times, especially playing by ear which I do so much of.

Manic Monday

It's all go in our house this morning with all the kids back at school so I thought a rendition of 'Manic Monday' or should I say 'Pandemic Monday' would suit the day! Have a great one x

Spring is in the air!
